Well Vladivostok is pretty far south and is sunny all winter long, so it's not dark everywhere in the Russian winter.

Here are a couple other videos about Vladivostok

"Run down"? In that photo, I thought it looked spiffed up, compared to when I was last there. But I haven't looked at your videos yet.

People don't realize that a good deal of Siberia is sunny for much of the winter. There's a big dump of snow, then it's sunny for weeks, then another snow dump, followed by weeks of bright sunshine. It's cold, but bright and cheery.

This isn't true of the northern regions, though. I think that one photo was somewhere outside Magadan or on Chukotka or in northern Yakutia somewhere. Believe it or not, it's like that even in September in some of those areas!

Rare in the world.
Don't forget Harbin. There are fewer "white skin Europeans" there now, but back in the day, it was a happening place! That was before all the coal dust in the air, though.

Novosibirsk.
Sunrise 8:54 am. Sunset 4:08 pm. The duration of the day about 7 hours. If you work in the office from 8 am to 5 pm, then you just don't see the Sun.

Of course, Vladivostok is a more southern city.

First Russian video I saw without seeing a fight and nobody turning left was hit by another car. JK, seeing cityscapes is always nice.

Vladivostok seems like a typical Russian heavy industry city. Seems like its biggest asset is its nature.

okay, well rundown might be a bit harsh but it seems a little dirty, and could use some better landscaping, fresh paint, and just some minor touch ups, it's nothing huge, it's not like a ghetto or anything. Of course there are some well maintained places, especially in the city center such as this
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1152...7i13312!8i6656
And here is an example of how they kind of let the plants do their own thing, which has it's own appeal, but I think it would look better if it were tidied up a bit.
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1146...7i13312!8i6656
And some places need to be repaved
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1131...7i13312!8i6656
And here is an example of an apartment in need of a new paint job and some landscaping
https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1671...7i13312!8i6656
And if you go out towards the outskirts often times it just looks like a dump, even if its prime real estate.

Another interesting place in the region are the border cities of Blagoveshchensk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blagoveshchensk and Heihe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heihe
just across the river is China
https://www.google.com/maps/@50.2566...7i13312!8i6656
I think it's a shame that there is no bridge connecting the two cities, however the river freezes over in the winter and you can drive your car over it, and if I'm not mistaken there is a ferry that connects the two cities.
This is Blagoveshchensk

And across the river, Heihe
