Million in the city or metro? In the city it makes sense because their is only about 150-200 cities in the world with city center populations over one million people. Johannesburg probably not but Riyadh definitely and Jakarta might be borderline if it is talking about murder rate.

I think metro because some cities on the list don't have 1 million people living in their city limits.

Pretty sure Riyadh ranks in the top 10 cities each year with most executions.
Enough reason to not include them in the top 50 imo.

It is only doing major regional cities, that list isn't accurate whatsoever. Also having executions doesn't mean you will be murdered. Oppressive governments tend to make a country safe crime-wise. For some reason though Boston or Seattle aren't on the North America list and the safest Brazilian city Florianopolis isn't on the list either. Europe has Moscow on the list which although safe is comparable to Houston, Texas in murder rate and we here aren't even near the safest city in our country let alone state. In fact Houston isn't even the safest city in the South Texas Coastal Region over 100,000 people. For example how did Nagoya not make it onto the Asia list? How did they even compile an Africa list seeing as most estimates are either BS or possibly true but the government is so corrupt that no one trusts their statistics.
They basically kicked out a lot of safe cities by only using GDP/ Importance or whatever to decide their cities making the list as credible as the local Lagos government saying Lagos only has 250 murders and an extremely high police fatality rate (in those 250 murders 50+ were policemen).

Japan only 2 cities in the top 50 is a complete joke. Should be closer to 10.

Agreed also more SK cities also, if it was over one million people. The rest would probably be rounded of by dozens of Chines cities and the safest city in a few SE Asian countries among other places.

Copenhagen, Helsinki and Oslo should also be among the top safest using any classifications.

But I agree, I'm sure the list would be dominated my Japanese and South Korean cities.
