Frankfurt is just a large, nondescript German city. Germany has many wonderful cities with plenty to do and see. Frankfurt is not one of them. Crimewise, it's no worse than any other German city.

Ive been to Frankfurt and had the same impression as Crew Chief. It's a nice city, but there are other places in Germany I would prefer.

I've been to Oslo countless times. I've always like Oslo and felt very safe there. I enjoyed the nightlife and the city in general. The history was very interesting as well. If you go, I would recommend going up to the ski jump above the city. There is a cafe with great coffee and dessert and the view over the city and the fjord are beautiful. I would also encourage you to get out to see other areas if you have the opportunity. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.

I wouldn't say that Frankfurt is nondescript. The fact that it has a skyline of skycrapers makes it quite unusual for a European city. I have been to Frankfurt many times and think it's a great city. I especially enjoy walking along the Main river. But you're right, there are other cities in Germany that are much nicer and more interesting.

Finland used to be a Russian archduchy, and Helsinki evidently looks so much like a pre-revolutionary Russian city it is often used as a backdrop for films about czarist Russia. Helsinki is a beautiful city, although I was a bit disappointed by the quantity of graffiti, and the fact that OY Stockmann AB, Finland's leading department store, looked to me a bit more like Wal-Mart than anything really classy.

A nice excursion is to take the overnight Silja-Line ferry from Helsinki to Stockholm, spend the day seeing Stockholm, and come back the next night. Or, rent a car and explore the countryside. Finnish roads are excellent, but the moment you get to the Russian border their roads are awful.
