NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen (NHK紅白歌合戦 Enueichikei Kōhaku Uta Gassen?), more commonly known as simply Kōhaku, which official translation is "Year-end Song Festival",[1] is an annual music show on New Year's Eve produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK and broadcast on television and radio, nationally and internationally by the NHK network and by some overseas (mainly cable) broadcasters who buy the program. The show ends shortly before midnight. Before the show began broadcasting on television in late 1953, the show was held on 3 January and only consisted of a radio broadcast.
I thought no one was watching TV anymore these days
Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like the tv ratings of the show are usually 30~40%, that's massive by all standards.
You are correct, I think.
1962 80.4%
1972 80.6%
1982 69.9%
1992 Part I 40.2% Part II 55.2%
2002 Part I 37.1% Part II 47.3% and FIFA World Cup Japan vs Russia 66.1%
2012 Part I 33.2% Part II 42.5%
Oh, they don't count those who don't have tv sets BTW.
