Chinese Basketball Association championship
China men's national basketball team Olympics.
China national football world cup match. NBA finals
I am quite surprised about the NBA in China. I know it's popular in many countries but is it really to the point where people organize parties to watch it in China?
It's definitely not mainstream, but has a small but passionate group of fans. But I'm nut sure the organizers would be entirely happy with the reasons for its cult following...
Isn't Australia a participant country in Eurovision now?
In Brazil, every game of the National Team during a World Cup is important enough to close shops, offices, banks, factories and so on during the game.
They are watched by virtually every brazilian, people make barbecues, invite relatives and friends, watch in bars, etc
Other important championships are Campeonato Brasileiro and Copa dos Libertadores da America. They're not as popular as a World Cup but are also highly watched.
The Soap Opera that is on TV at 9 pm has a national audience of about 30 points. The last chapter of brazilian Soaps (brazilian Soaps usually last for 4 to 7 months) have huge audiences, overpassing 40 points, but people dont use to join relatives and friends as much as we do in those championships.
FIFA World Cup -even after Mexico is out of the tournament.
The Pope's visits -John Paul II much specially, since he enjoys(ed) superstar status.
Mex vs major national soccer teams matches.
Telenovela finales, nowadays they're not as strong as in the 80's/90's but nevertheless, they remain quite popular.
Back in the 70's all the way to the early 90's probably El Chavo Del 8, a comedy show vastly popular trouhgt Latin America.

Disclaimer, not Venezuelan myself nor ever been there.
Miss Venezuela, as big in Vzla, as the Super Bowl is in the USA.
Miss universe be my guess as well.
Telenovelas? I know they are as popular as in Brazil or Mexico, but I ain't sure if they draw whole families into watching them.
- Eurovision Song Contest
- 17th of May Constitution Day. Something like a 12 hour uninterupted live coverage of celebration events around the country.
- Norway's national team in a football Euro or World Cup (rarely happens anymore, but still..)
- Cross-country skiing, men's 50 km and 4x10km relay in Olympics or World championships.
Ordinary Saturday night entertainment programs used to have massive audiences years before social media and internet. They had various titles over the years and were a mix of game shows and talk shows.
So, what kind of televised events would people gather together for a party where you live?
Super Bowl?
Eurovision?
World Cup Final?
Chinese New Year show?
Italy's Football World Cup and European Championships, Champions League final, Coppa Italia final, Serie A title decider, the final of the Sanremo Singing Festival (this one is hard to understand, the most popular singers take place as well as the most well known Italian comicians and actors and foreign singers taking placr) and New Years Eve's show (but more for it being new Year's Eve than for the show that's on telly)
As much as Rai wants it to be, Eurovision isn't really popular here in Italy, it barely gets 3m spectators. In the past Miss Italia used to be popular but it's a shadow of its former self and it looks like Sanremo is going to follow in the footpath with young people not caring as much (which is sad, really)
As you see, Italy is a football mad place. Any other sport pales in comparison in terms of coverage. On the main sport paper which is the Gazzetta, you find first tier football, the second tier football, then foreign football, then lower league football and then all the other sports (with especially motorsports, basketball and cycling)
