I can't live without Trader Joes, I just adore that place. Whole Foods is good too, but more expensive.

The US does have an amazing fresh food/healthy food movement right now. Also due to multi-culturalism, you can find things like chipotle flavored hummus or other very interesting combinations.

I don't really understand the question but...

I think the US does just about every type of food well. You may not be able to get the best version of a particular ethnic cuisine there but I think you can find an acceptable version. What's amazing is the fact you can find a variety of cuisines in even smaller cities that you'd struggle to find in many international capitals.

If you are asking about food originating in the US, I think it's reasonable to say there's a respectable food culture there. Undeniably it is heavily influenced by foreign immigrants but so are most cuisines in every part of the world. Southern and Cajun are distinctly American and hamburgers and hot dogs are ubiquitous around the world. The UK influence is negligible compared to places like Australia and South Africa.

I do not understand how the USA government can accept there is many americans with morbid obesity that is not in any other country without prohibiting junk foods with chemical additives.
While that follow so has many people with morbidal fat can not say them eat well in USA although some minorities if eat well.
This matter is very sad and different from the gastronomy that is other thing.

Let s leave aside haute cuisine restaurants.

In Those 3 countries Common gastronomy they as eat every day spaniards french and italian is not this in USA.It is great missing.

They make simple meals fresh that produce without additives with traditional recipes of the regional or national culture of those countries that every day brings housewife of market very near and eating the great majority of people daily and also in modest restaurants .

That s what replace in USA large factories producing junk food and where eat the simple man etc.
And even worse with fast food chains and street food vendors bad of hot dogs etc

It is sad many europeans to eat cheap simple meal we had to go in New York to neighborhood little Italy.

Food in the USA is very diverse and can be excellent. Perhaps tourists from Europe do not know where the good restaurants are located and so they eat in tourist oriented places which could run anywhere from excellent to over-priced garbage.

Other than the fresh croissants, I was disappointed with the food in France. But, since I don't live there, maybe I just ate in the wrong places. Still, France is supposed to be a place where food is superb, and that wasn't my experience at all.

Food in Britain can be above excellent. You can buy just about anything in the supermarkets and the home cooks can put together a wonderful meal. Some restaurants are awful, but if you know the local population and find out where they like to eat, you can find world class restaurants. This belief that the British don't have good food is caused by tourists not knowing what restaurants to eat at.
So clean that once a week yiu see recalls from eggs to baby food. Today is is smoked salmon.

Some europeans in France Spain and Italy mainly they think that is not enough because Americans have a tradition of U K,. And in UK never has a good gastronomy. and the average American man according seen in travel to USA he abused hot dog and the like burgers and junk food precooked etc
It is fair to recognize that in USA also there are better minorities(but are minorities) increasingly today they are fans of good gastronomy .-

Who You Think that has reason ?
In my experience, there are people IN EVERY COUNTRY who really believe that their country has the BEST X or BEST Y, etc.

If you read some that some Americans think that America has that...take in mind, it's just an individual's opinion, and doesn't reflect 100% subjective truth/reality.

I think the real reality is that almost every nation has Fine Food Restaurants, and no idea how anyone could monopolize that.

Yum. Right now the craze around here is kombucha- fermented asían tea served on tap at coffee shops and at stores.

Also ramen + beer or pho + beer houses, I never thought something like that would work but they are super packed all the time.

I actually love this about the USA and miss it when I am in other countries. There is just this amazing foodie energy here that is very eclectic and always growing.

I see your point but you also need to understand that the US is a very large diverse country with different food cultures. For example here in CA where I live, there are alot of people who are fit and excercise alot. There are also smoothie and green juice bars everywhere that are packed with people. There are many Vegetarian/vegan people and restaurants. The healthy food movement here is huge, and actually fast food companies have been losing money.

It almost like the US is bipolar when it comes to food- either very unhealthy or super healthy, both to the extreme.

It is true this phenomenon of some american men running away USA of junk food as in a message says the forista Rosa Surf because is already apparent among american tourists in Spain.
The Gastronomicamente American tourists in Spain are of 3 classes.
1)Those who are addicted to food junk and although they go to other countries they the seek .

These american junk food chains have branches in big cities of Europe and is full in tourists americans men
they do not Know that are lost you the magnificent mediterranean food .

2)Tourists Americans that fled junk food and looking they desperately as crazy in Madrid some vegetarian restaurants and breathe a sigh of relief when they find although there are few almost only for tourists.
They do not realize that healthy food need to also fish and meat and that the food vegetarian is incomplete according to all specialists in nutrition.

They also lose thing in Spain as the exquisite and very healthy food as the famous Iberian Ham of pig race,That there he is defined as Olive tree with legs.
Also the most very varied fish that capture the Spanish fleet of fishing the largest in World like Japan through seas worldwide Exquisitely cooked with old recipes of age century -,

3)The american tourists explorer who want to see everything and eat everything when they ago a visiting a new country

I identify completely with this american tourist.

Lots of people in the US cannot afford quality food, and lots of people are not informed/don't want to be informed/ or don't care about what they eat, where the food come from, what are the ingredients, what food considered to be healthy, how to cook healthy even from basic ingredients. Many don't cook. Period. However all want to have a state-of-the-art kitchen
There is still general wish to get lots of food for the money. Quantity is still more important than quality.
Portions are huge, and lots of Americans travelling overseas are complaining about the taste and size of food served in Europe. (see some threads on our Travel Forum)
Not to generalize or stereotype, but many people don't know how real (unprocessed) food taste like.
Enormous marketing that push items like sugary cereals, salted snacks and fast food put children's long-term health at risk by promoting unhealthy eating habits. And old habits die hard.
The latest changes are minuscule - food companies have been increasing their advertising to children for chips and other junk foods, even as marketing of healthy snacks such as yogurt has not kept pace.
Fast food is among the most heavily advertised sectors of the United States, and we all know the quality of their food, although the same chains modified their food to the higher European standards.

There are places that sell/serve good, healthy, quality food in the US. But many people have no access to it, or means to buy it.
Diversity is great - you can buy food, try almost every ethnic food from around the world. But that is mostly available in big (bigger) cities, where many ethnic groups are present. Small towns don't have those choices.
The quality of the ingredients is also not always good. The preparation not always sanitary...

Fine restaurants exist - again in bigger cities, but the food is not affordable to many.

Nina

Just like Spain.

Nowdays most people only eat JUNK (I own a restaurant on the med coast).

People with money try to eat good quality and healthy food, as the US, but the rest eats crap bought at Frankfurts, frozen pizzas, frozen bread products, frozen croissants, french fries, awful tapas, shawarmas made by people that don't know what a shawarma is, infamous chinese restaurants, etc.

You can find excellent restaurants but YOU HAVE TO LOOK FOR THEM AND PAY LOTS OF MONEY.

Spain has changed A LOT. If you visit a EGB, you'll see that many kids are fat - which were non-existent before, mainly kids with low income. Many of those kids have only access to JUNK FOOD, macarrones, pizza congelada, etc.

In the US, if you look for healthy and high quality food, you are going to find it...more variety too.

Franchises, franchises here are a plague, and I must say that Spanish franchises are particularly AWFUL.

Sure, there are good restaurants...but prepare to pay from 50 dollars onwards.

In the US, health standards are higher...here there are too many "chiringuitos" that open one day and close the following day. Problem is that opening a restaurant, at least in Catalonia, IS VERY EXPENSIVE, employment costs and rents is very expensive, and you are forced to cut on quality.

And you know what is the "chic" food here? American Burguers, not McDocnalds but expensive ones not made by chains.

https://www.tripadvisor.es/Restauran...Catalonia.html

This place, and tow similar ones, are always packed because you can eat for below 30 or 40 dollars. Just another thing, forget about wine....alcohol tax.
