Really curious about this.

According to this source whose data comes from ISTAT (Italian National Center Of Statistics) the most popular males names are:

1. FRANCESCO - Italian for Francis
2. ALESSANDRO - Italian for Alexander
3. ANDREA - Italian for Andrew
4. LORENZO - Italian for Lawrence
5. MATTEO - Italian for Matthew
6. MATTIA - Italian for Matthew
7. GABRIELE - Italian for Gabriel
8. LEONARDO - Italian for Leonard
9. RICCARDO - Italian for Richard
10. DAVIDE - Italian for David

The most popular names for females are:

1. SOFIA - Italian for Sophie
2. GIULIA - Italian for Julie
3. GIORGIA - Italian for Georgia
4. MARTINA - self explainatory
5. EMMA - self explainatory
6. AURORA - Italian for Dawn
7. SARA - self explainatory
8. CHIARA - Italian for Claire
9. GAIA - Italian for Gaea
10. ALICE - self explainatory

It's also interesting that Chinese immigrants tend to pick English or Italian names, North Africans and South Asians tend to pick their country's traditional names while Eastern Europeans lie something in between. 15-16% of births come from immigrants. 25% of kids come from parents which aren't married

Leonardo and Riccardo ? I've never met anyone called like that actually. Maybe these names are getting more popular ultimately. Also, Control+F, no "Francesca" found ? I think I know like 12 of them. Never met a Giorgia either. The french equivalent sounds really old.

In France for guys of my generation, Julien and Nicolas were probably the most popular.

This is for newborns in 2012. Honestly from the names listed, i don't know a Gaia, a Chiara and a Emma. I have friends of friends or friends of relatives who are called Chiara and Gaia but no Emmas.

Both really although the list of names i have made is for newborns. It's interesting that Paganity and Kalevala have such an influence on name picking
