Okay so I'm a hippie/free spirit & I live in Sudbury Ontario (Canada) at the moment with my parents, and in a year I will be graduating high school and I am looking for somewhere to go to college. I would like to go to college (or just learn) jewellery making, craft arts & business. The only thing is that I do not want to do this is Sudbury. I love to travel and I'm willing to go anywhere in the world to go to college because I think it would be worth it.
I am looking for a place with:
-eco friendly community
-lots of art & music
-lots of festivals
-free spirited people
-no snow or very little snow during the winter
-hot/warm summers
-nice weather
-beautiful beaches which are great for swimming
-hippie community
-little markets and organic grocery stores
-very outdoorsy (hiking, kayaking, swimming, etc.)
-lots of nature
-low cost of living
-hopefully by the ocean (not a necessity though)
-good schools for business, craft art, and jewellery making
-easy going community who are very accepting & welcoming of new people
-some english speaking people
-good place to open a business
Some places I have considered are Costa Rica, BC Canada, somewhere in Europe, New Zealand, and San Francisco California but I'm open to any other suggestions
You sound a lot like my cousin who is into many of the same things you are. She spent some time in Byron Bay in Australia and really loved it. I've also been there and can attest to the fact that it's very hippie and laid back with a nice beach vibe. Check it out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byron_...ew_South_Wales
If you're willing to go out to New Zealand, then several Australian cities should be options as well.
Specifics-wise, maybe Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah might make sense? If you do so though, make sure you get a scholarship as schools in the US for non locals/citizens is expensive.
Kid, that's a pretty big wish list. Most places that have all that will be very expensive. You mentioned SF, California, the most expensive city in the US as an example. I'm compelled to ask you, how do you plan to pay for all this? The schooling, the living, and the travel to get there, plus the jewelry supplies? Do you have artistic talent and experience? As for Costa Rica, I haven't heard of any jewelry-making colleges there, and it's a Spanish-speaking country. Are you equipped to handle that?
I'm inclined to agree with the idea that you should get a business degree at home, then figure out where to study jewelry craft. Sri Lanka comes to mind: cheap beaches, one of the gemstone capitals of the world. Ditto Thailand. Sri Lanka would have more English-speakers, though. What kind of jewelry were you interested in making?
Aren't all the hippies in Canada on Salt Spring Island? Ok, it doesn't have hot summers and the ocean is hardly swimmable, but still...
