In media and policy, Australia is politically correct.
If you walk into a pub, not so much. There will be banter, off colour jokes - these are jokes and intended as such. If you dish it out, expect it returned.
I agree, I think it is worse on the far left. Though I think there is a double standard. Some groups are completely acceptable to criticize and even put down, others are completely off limits. I know people will deny it but we see this in the Canadian forum all the time.
Living in Canada, I concur. Political Correctness has ushered in an era where it is completely acceptable for visible minorities to publically say the most outlandish and hateful things about the white majority without fear of sanction. However, if a white person makes a comment that is even a tinge off-colour, he is immediately branded a bigoted degenerate and can suffer all kinds of social repercussions including losing his or her job as a result. I honestly believe this is one of the big reasons that Donald Trump's anti-PC campaign seems to have struck home with so many white Americans south of the border.
What I have noticed as a result of this is that whites are far less likely to participate in honest discussions concerning race unless it is behind the veil of internet anonymity. Instead, they pay lip service, smile and nod when presented with the subject in person, and will only speak their honest opinions to their white friends in private when no minorities or self-loathing white apologists are present.
The dictatorship of Political Correctness is a "disease" that is killing the world.
