Depends on where you are....Europeans often like San Francisco or LA, South Americans prefer Miami.

I think it's just a brand recognition thing. It's so pervasive in popular culture. I think if you only counted the views of people who have actually visited, it would be a pretty different result.

San Francisco, due to the Sillicon Valley. As I am a software developer, if I would move to USA, then my first choice to live would be NYC, but the second choice certainly San Francisco, San José, Oakland or one of the cities in that region.

DC zero votes? how underrated! San Francisco is the winner here, though.

I don't think anyone considers New York City to be desirable, except for the people who live there and they all think the rest of the country is a sort of undefined blur because NYC is the only place that exists.

And that would be why NYC is often considered the most important/desirable city on the planet, and gets more visitors than anyplace in the Americas.

It really depends on which crowd we're talkin about.

Generally speaking: The gay crowd would probably a different set of cities from techies or black professionals or retirees or wannabe celebrities.

Besides NYC, the people mentioned above would probably prefer:
Gay Crowd: San Francisco
Techies: Silicon Valley/San Jose
Black Professionals: Washington DC or Atlanta
Retirees: Miami
Wannabe Celebrities: Los Angeles
