Not sure about other countries but in the US usually smaller, poorer cities have the worst crime statistics like Flint, MI or Camden, NJ.

Of the larger cities, Detroit, mentioned earlier is dangerous but not as dangerous as it used to be. I'd say the most dangerous US cities are St. Louis, MO and Baltimore, MD
I agree with this. Saint Louis is a hell hole!

Reports say that Osaka is the most dangerous city of Japan.
Not sure what the most dangerous cities of China are... many say Guangzhou/Shenzhen/Chongqing.

Canada: Winnipeg, per capita.

Mexico: Acapulco has the highest murder rate, which surprises me. Juarez must be close behind.

France: Marseille. Most dangerous city in Europe, isn't it?
As of today Chicago has had 156 homicides in 2016. Last year they had a total of 488. Seems high to me.

All of the most dangerous areas in the U.S. are heavily black and low income. Everybody knows where those places are because it is so obvious. (They look like god-forsaken places, even to atheists.)

Middle-class Americans don't go those places because there is rarely any reason to go, unless you're looking for some kind of "adventure."

That is a massive number. Norway (5.2 mill.) had 23 intentional homicides last year.

You have to remember in the USA some cities have a small city / municipal boundary relative to other cities with similar sized metro areas. Chicago city limits has around 3 million residents. St Louis has 10% of that (300,000) but had only half as many murders. STL often has 200 murders per year, a rate of 66 per 100k residents. Now the suburbs of St Louis mostly have zero few homicides.

When you're talking large cities by crime rates the worst are usually St Louis, Detroit, New Orleans.

In America Detroit and Chicago are the classic punching bags but Saint Louis and Baltimore actually had the highest rates among large cities along with New Orleans. Saint Louis
Now, that's a dangerous city. Port Harcourt isn't a walk in the park either or Warri. Then you have Jos and Lagos as well, yet I still wouldn't put any of these in a top 3 apart from Maiduguri. Sorry to go on, but Nigeria has some really insecure cities.

Nigeria: Maiduguri, Kano, Kaduna

Honduras: San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, Tegucigalpa

Syria: Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs

United States: New Orleans, Memphis, St. Louis

Libya: Benghazi, Tripoli, Sirte

Pakistan: Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi

Congo DRC: Goma, Kinshasa, Lubumbashi

I've heard that too, yet Osaka is still ranked one of the safest cities in the world.

Osaka would be the safest city in the U.S and it would be easily the safest city over 10 million in Europe excluding murders all other crimes are extremely low when compared.

Lagos although is notorious for its danger also has 25 million people, when you factor the fact that 50% of all wealthy Nigerians worldwide either live in Lagos or Abuja, it becomes aparrent that large swaths of Lagos are safe by Nigerian standards. Now Port Harcourt and Warri are downright deadly. Kano, Kaduna and Maiduguri would be average but if it wasn't for the risk of Boko Haram which nowadays is 90% in and around Maiduguri they wouldn't be near the list.
Safer cities would be ....
Eastern Lagos (Lagos Island+Ikoyi+Banana Island+ Eko Atlantic City+ Lekki Peninsula), central, western and northern Lagos is hit or miss and I wouldn't recommend hanging around those areas as their are many nice neighborhoods next to trash and their is crime around the Airport due to tourists. Lagos probably has the lowest crime rate because it is a tourist city and is Nigeria's shining jewel, but the bad parts of Lagos are just pure filth unlike other regions.
Calabar (although they have some weird traditions)
Uyo City (funded by China)
Abuja (rich people/ built by dutch/ planned city)
Benin City (Former center of the Benin Empire, had huge walls and been a commercial center for centuries)
Ibadan (Average, but as center of Yoruba land it has many prosperous areas and it is also a large city of 3 million)
Less Important Cities that are safe
Akure, Enugu (famous soccer team), Osogbo, Owerri
