Where I live it's usually the wealthy people who play tennis and golf. The only time I ever had a tennis racket in my hand was when I dug one out of somebody's trash and took it home. We had an apple tree in our back yard and the old man wanted my brother and me to rake up all the apples that had fallen on the ground. Instead of raking them up, my brother would pitch them to me and I would swat them over the fence with the racket. There was nothing left of the racket so it ended up back in the trash.

I thought it was because early editions of the World Series and the trophy were sponsored by a newspaper called The New York World?

I discourage completely USA and China to love soccer. Otherwise they would win every world cup and overshadow Brazil. Despite of the flop in 2014, this is - still - one of the few things which make us proud.

Seems it's a common myth ?

Indeed it is, but one that might have cast Americans in a better light than the whole "the U.S. = the world" thing that's the alternative!

Hey, I'm not the one who suggested any such thing. It's just a reaction to all the comments from foreigners who complain they do not understand US football. That tells me they're either not attempting to learn it, or are indeed incapable of doing so.

Bringing politics into a football thread? How smart is that? Read what I said about Trump in the threads concerning him if you're all bothered by him. Bringing up Nazis too ? Godwin has to be choking on that one. I suppose we could elect European style knuckleheads like y'all do.

I'm not so touchy or Eurocentric like you seem to be - the EU isn't the only part of the world, and most of the rest of it is 3rd world and locals can't afford the equipment. At least the game is fairly popular in Canada & much of Mexico - due to proximity no doubt. Smart folks they are.

Why are the winning Super Bowl teams "world champions", or something along those lines?
I've always scoffed at that. They ought to drop the designation until other countries like the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico, Japan, & Taiwan are a part of the playoffs. But baseball to me is almost as boring as cricket.

Same thing for American football, but it seems other countries aren't interested in playing the game.

At least Basketball caught on around the world and we see lots of foreign players on the NBA teams. There oughta be a World League.

If you say so, but I don't watch the Super Bowl either, or very rarely. Bunch of overpaid prima donna divas. The half time show too.

Are you suggesting that apart from the 'EU' everywhere else in the world is '3rd world'!?
