Yup, I am aware of that. James Naismith was born about 50 km from where I sit right now.


But he invented basketball in the U.S. (Springfield, Mass.), he codified and published the rules there, and the sport became what it is today thanks to the U.S.


I am totally cool with and consider it appropriate for the Canadian basketball community to honour Naismith here and there. But that doesn't change the fact that it's really an American sport.

The sport of Snooker was invented in India by British army officers. It's still considered to be a British sport. The same should apply for Canada with Basketball.
