Which places around the world do you think portray a stereotypical image of winter, spring, summer and autumn? In other words: the essence of each season, what is it to you and where can you find it?

Here are my picks:

Spring: The Netherlands (flower fields)

Summer: I would say somewhere with guaranteed swimming weather, a scenic beach and at a rather high latitude for longer days. The Mediterranean (coastal Croatia, Italy) maybe.

Autumn: New England (colourful foliage, rather sunny; this is an obvious one)

Winter: Hokkaido (guaranteed snow, mountainous scenery. The Alps are an option too)

Interesting, thanks. I can comprehend Athens and Moscow but why did you choose London for spring and Paris for autumn?

Because I always associate spring with the UK, while leaves falling from the trees seems to suit Paris more. Would you swap them?

I could say New England for all four as the four seasons are very distinct and pronounced there. But that would be cheating so:

Spring - Paris
Summer - Atlanta
Fall - London
Winter - Moscow

I would probably agree with all of that apart from Atlanta, for me summer in a US City conjures up thoughts of Surfing, California, the Beach Boys and Los Angeles rather than Atlanta. Even New York where it does get very hot in the summer would probably be a more internationally famous example, although this is no disrespect to the great city of Atlanta.

Good to hear from your perspective. I guess for me living in California, surfing isn't thought of as a summer thing as it's done year round. The Mavericks surfing competition in California takes place in winter when the waves are biggest.
