Canada is the world's 8th most peaceful nation; - USA is the 100th.
24% of Canadians are obese - vs. 36% of Americans.
Canada has 5% as many tornado's as USA.
Canadian healthcare costs $4445 per person, - versus $8233 per person in USA.
The second and third fact aren't good news at all. The obesity rate in Canada is still poor and the frequency of tornados in either country is still low. I bet the average American and the average Canadian do not know a single person that has died in a Tornado but overall great post.

I agree the obesity rate is too high and getting higher in Canada. Not something one should post as a positive.
Hey could you tell me the difference? Specifically what the differences are? Thanks!
Socialism tries to void any income gap through economic policies. The means with which they get in the position to be able to control a country's economy can be both revolutionary or pacific. In the latter case, we talk of Democratic Socialism and not Socialdemocracy.
Socialdemocracy is insted a party which operates within the scope of liberalism who tries to push for more welfare state to reduce the income gap but unlike the socialists who want a completely planned economy (by the State), the socialdemocrats don't and neither do they want to eliminate the existence of differences but just keep them at bay.

In the USA personal charity used to fill in the void that govt welfare now provides. Most people used to be members of a church and got social and financial support there. Today fewer Americans of means help poor people and fewer poor people are members of social groups (like churches) to receive help from. That is why socialism or communism never appealed to my very poor grandparents but is appealing to today's poor Americans. If income equality continues to grow America will start adopting components of European socialism. Personally I'd like to see elements of it while still having less regulation and lower taxes.

I get it but social groups isn't the something one could ever rely on. We often had the Church fill in that role in Italy as well but it was a plus and not the only provider of welfare.
That said, I wouldn't call any European country socialist but at most social democratic or liberal social (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_socialism) which are the middle grounds between socialism and unregulated liberism.
The USA must just return to the welfare system it used to have up until Nixon and Reagan shattered it. Roosevelt was basically the man that started some kind of welfare system for first but then the USA all of a sudden abandoned it all of a sudden (by the way Mussolini and Mac Donald/Attlee started the same process at almost the same time but are hardly credited for it)
