No, also my dad's experience there, but just giving an example, I won't pretend like I have been to a country and do my answers are obviously biased and will change the more countries I go to, but aren't you the guy who refuses to go to any Islamic country just because of Sharia Law????? So I wouldn't be talking about never going to places and hating countries, although I am still a teenager, I myself have been to around 25 countries mostly in North America and Europe and the only three developing countries I have been to that I can remember are The Bahamas, Nigeria and Turkey. Most countries I have been to are actually European. Italy (Northern), Southern France (+Paris city and suburbs), Spain (Mostly Catalonia), Netherlands (lived in Den Haag), A few German cities, the Eastern half of Switzerland, all of the U.K, Ireland etc. The rest of my opinions are from my Dad and friends. My Dad is the most well traveled person I know and has been to around 50+ countries. I compare standard of living with countries I have been to and that is how I gauge my response.

Country 2 ("conservative"): Almost like a dictatorship. A cruel law system with death penalties such as the firing range and decapitation, and punishments such as lashes. No free speech allowed (at least controversial ones that go against the government). You must dress or act how the law wants you to (especially the women). No LGBT or women's rights. But here, you're safe as you can be, just as long as you abide to the laws. You can leave your door open all night and no one would rob you. Hardly any murder or assaults.

Pick your poison.
First of all, what would be the scale of the violence in the liberal country when compared to the conservative one?

Choosing between, say, Venezuela and Belarus would be hard but i think i would still opt for the former because i would be able to change things more easily than i would in the latter because of there being free speech. In the latter, you have a stable system that can't be changed so i think that anyone who is a left winger, center-left or who loves democratic means should choose the former

It seems like a question of South Africa vs. Singapore, and my answer is neither. I'd rather stay in miserable Taiwan then move to either of the extremes.

True, for all their supposed tolerance Western and Northern Europeans view E.Europeans as the worst of scum. They'd rather have anyone else but us. I don't know why they hate us that much, I mean we did not enslave Africans or Asians and steal their natural resources like they did. Yes our countries are poorer, but when your country doesn't steal and enslave it relies only on what it already has! Think about it - the Netherlands has no natural resources, it's almost impossible to grow anything there due to the bad weather so they needed trade and other people's natural resources.

Been living in the Netherlands for 5 years now and before that in London and I know what I'm talking about. Maybe we should start shouting "racism!" or "nazi" every time they treat us badly, they hate those words.

It's always quite amusing when people say that Western and Northern European countries are richer today because of the slave trade and imperialism in the past. Practically all European countries were from more or less a same starting point since WWII save for a number of exceptions which were uncathed, namely Switzerland and Sweden. Not to mention, countries like Italy and Spain were poor as **** even before WWII, even poorer than Eastern European countries then.

Besides, the Netherlands is the second largest exporter of food and agricultural product in the entire world. Sure the weather might not be the happiest (especially in winter), but it's really good for crops and cows as it's very mild, and it's also extremely flat so the topography is perfect.

Portugal was the largest colonial power in the world during the 1400's and 1500's...
Today less rich than Czechia and Slovenia, 2 non-Western European Countries that never had overseas colonies.

Well look at the bright sight: the UK and the likes will soon leave the EU and form a union with their favorite sinking ships: Greece and Russia. They should call this new union "SU", sinking ships union or better yet, call it: U.S.

One more thing about the governments in South America. Most of them may be left wing but they have done little to decrease the wealth gap between the lower and upper classes. The welfare isn't enough to offer a decent life to the lower classes. What you have are corrupt governments who are left wing only in name and exploit the working and lower classes of their country to gather enough support to keep their seat and go on with their shady deals.

That's not true for all of Northern and Western Europe. We've been quite welcoming of Eastern European over the years here in Italy so much so that we have one million of Romanian immigrants most of which have integrated well. Same goes for Albanians.

The ones who aren't held highly are Romas and they bring a negative reputation to the whole of Eastern Europe. I suppose it's the same outside of Italy

I would be unhappy with both of them but I would take the conservative country. At least then abortion would be illegal and that's a very important issue for me.

I think the terms should be thrown away, we could use some real examples. Would one rather live in Honduras/El Salvador or North Korea/Cuba.

Honduras and El Salvador aren't the most free countries, but compared to North Korea and Cuba they are incredibly free. They are also both very violent countries, while N Korea and Cuba are very safe for citizens willing to follow the "law".

I think most people would choose Honduras or El Salvador. I have been to both El Salvador and Honduras and I enjoyed both trips, but it is nerve racking when you see guns everywhere. Every store (anywhere with money transactions) I went to in El Salvador has armed guards, even the small ice cream shop. Trucks carrying propane bottles or crops have armed guards, schools have armed guards, etc. The hotel had 3 armed guards wearing bullet proof vests and they barricaded the door after 9 p.m. Guests could even request armed escorts to local restaurants or businesses.
