Interestingly, I did a whole college essay on the cultural aspects of alcohol across the globe. As others have said, any culture that is restrictive on alcohol, is restrictive on far more things.

I'm in Kuwait where alcohol is highly illegal. There is a strong coffee and tea culture here that goes with social interaction as well as food. It's rare actually for Arabs to socialize much with non-Arabs because the cultures tends to be too restrictive and they are family and tribal oriented. But there are Asians and a few expats here that you can socialize with and no alcohol again, ever.

I regularly drink wine at dinner when I'm not here so it's an adjustment but one that hasn't been difficult to me. We have a holiday coming up soon and I've thought of flying to the nearest country with a bar.

There are small towns in Alaska where alcohol is illegal.

Israel has a low alcohol consumption rate and is still a pretty free and prosperous country (as long as you're Jewish and not Muslim)

Someone told me that kidnapping and skinning other people alive is pretty awesome, too (And it makes for a fine handbag.)
Maybe you should try it.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go to the hospital for some skin grafting.

Come here for a binge, and we will have an absolutely awesome evening. You haven't experienced it for real before you've... experienced it.

Are you kidding me? Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans are alcohol champions, and the Koreans are among the heaviest drinkers in the world. Weak alcohol tolerance doesn't mean people aren't gonna drink. You need to know more people who aren't super nerds. My Japanese gf is a social drinker, as am I and her friends and we're hitting the 居酒屋 when I'm there. Plus in Japan there's the after-work drink culture. Don't tell me Japan doesn't drink when it's a BIG part of their culture called 飲み会. If they have a word for it, they're into it

Not been my experience with Taiwanese people. At least the ones here anyway. Then again seems like I always attract the drinkers and party-goers.
