Maryland has a median household income of $70,000. Mississippi has a median household income of $36,900.
Not exactly a trivial difference.
But very minor compared to historical differences.
New York/Connecticut/Maryland type states used to have 4:1 income gap with Mississippi. Now it's less than 2:1. Mississippi basically has the median income of Germany.
Mississippi basically has the median income of Germany.
Just because the average household in Mississippi is larger than that of Germany.
If you look at per capita income you will see people in Mississippi are a lot less rich than people in Germany.

None of this is true.
Average household size in Mississippi is only slightly higher than in Germany. 2.5 compared to 2.2. Hardly a major difference. And that doesn't even make any sense. Children don't earn income, so it isn't like having more children artificially makes a household richer.
Also Germany is not equal, east Germany (ex communist country) is a lot poorer than west Germany.
