Tokyo is quite cool, but my (Chinese) wife's knee-jerk, ingrained mistrust of Japan makes the possibility of moving there in the long-term somewhat low; for my part, I'm somewhat concerned about its future, since Japan has a ticking demographic time-bomb that could badly-damage its economy.
I feel like their demographic time-bomb has already exploded and it has already hurt Japan's economy. The next bombs in line are its neighbours'... aka Korea and Taiwan's.
I'd choose Paris or Tokyo. American cities are all pretty undesirable imo, I absolutely hate London, Hong Kong is a terrible place to live, and Dubai is in an Islamic state that practices sharia law, and it's in a ****ing desert.
Sydney seems really nice as well but it's pretty car-dependent and I'd hate to drive, that factor rules it out for me.
From a climate perspective none of the above. Dubai is blazing hot. LA gets really hot in the summer. San Francisco is chilly and foggy oftentimes. Other places have cold snowy winters. Even if I was wealthy I'd stay right here in San Diego and the Mediterranean climate.

Coastal LA, aka where the rich people live, doesn't get hot at all. You don't even need air conditioning.

It gets hot, even in costal LA. I have recently moved to Santa Monica from downtown and there are still hot days. Also, most wealthy people in LA county do not live on the coast, many live in the hills where it can get very hot. Anyway back to the question, I would buy a townhouse in NYC no questions asked.
I voted LA on that list but actually I would summer in Seattle, winter in Scottsdale or maybe Miami but I haven't spent much time in south Florida to know if I would chose that.
Seattle is heaven in summer, but I prefer San Juan islands.
