And in the 1400's to 1600's 25% of Europe's population was French. If France would've had the same population growth since, there would be over 300 million people in France today. France dominated Europe and thus the world for centuries, it was the only economical and military superpower. If Portugal of 2 million people back then explored the African coast and didn't tell anyone about it, it's completely irrelevant. Because they didn't. Discoveries were not something you shouted out to the world, or even your own country. You kept it for yourself. And why? The Portuguese incentive to explore was to find a get a piece of the spice trade. Compare it to if you dig for gold, and find it. Do you shout on facebook that I FOUND GOLD HERE AND HERE! No, you want to keep it for yourself. It could easily take 100 years before the knowledge of explorations spread to The Seven Provinces.
That's stupid. Portugal was much richer than France and much more powerful. The 1500's were very different from today. What mattered is the amount of materials you had, not the army size. Portugal discovered tonnes of places and its routes that European had no idea existed whilst France was an impoverished country with no power until the late 1600's.

Please revise and study your history.
Very few people have a good understanding of what Portugal was and the role it played from about 1415-1580. I have stopped discussing the topic with non-Portuguese they insist on being dismissive sometimes to the point of being disrespectful.

I know. It's getting ridiculous. Just because they don't know anything about Portugal (and have poor geography and history skills) they think just because they don't know that it didn't exist. And the guy who I responded clearly has zero (or close to it) knowledge about history, especially Portuguese or French or any outside Finland, which he insists is the greatest nation in the world (God knows why?). Judging form his posts he seems like a racist anyway.
Let's just not feed the trolls as you and I have better things to do. In addition, what counts is the present and the future not the past. (That's actually one of the problems relating to the Portuguese and many Europeans but I will leave it here as I could be here all night discussing this.)

Jesus christ. You're so full of crap, your statements are blatantly false, your accusations rude, and your nationalistic attitude doesn't make it better at all. That's all I have to say to you.

I am the least nationalistic person ever. Please indicate where I was nationalistic.
Because of a totally unfounded attack against me, who merely said that France was a more powerful country than Portugal during a certain time period.
Please indicate where I was trolling or racist.
And I was just correcting your statement nothing else. Anyways this about the past not the present which I don't wish to discuss because the past is the past.
The racism was in other posts, not this one.
China invented paper, silk, china, gun powder etc and governed a huge population. It should have a place. Nations like Japan, Korea, Vietnam were heavily influenced by China. Mongols, Turks, Persians and so on had some influence too.

Sure China had a place as a world leading country but not in the last 1000 years.
