Dutch, but German though a 'hard' language is more attractive. No offense to any of our Dutch friends, but though it may well be rich, I don't think it's the prettiest of languages.

This is true. Dutch is more guttural and harsh sounding than German although Flemish is less harsh.
German, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish sound the most similar to American English.
American English sounds similar to a German native speaker in Germany, Austria and Switzerland speaking English as many Americans originated from German speaking areas. In addition, some Americans came from Denmark and Sweden, which have languages similar to German than English.

And do not sound similar to British English.
The English spoken by Americans of German descent sounds absolutely no different than the English spoken by anyone else in the US.

This exactly lol, besides there is no such thing as 'American English' its the same language as the language spoken by the rest of the Anglo world! (Unless of course they're trying to actually suggest that what Americans speak is closer to the German language than it is to the language the rest of the Anglo world speaks!) :-D.

I will say that yes, German is more attractive, but due to other reasons: the literature originally written in German is richer and more influential than the literature in Dutch.

It depends on how many generations have passed since emigration to US.
