Share your thoughts and opinions on these North American cities; Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, and Phoenix.

If you have been to them, you can share experiences and/or stories. If you've never been to them then you can share opinions, what you know about them, what type of reputation these cities have in your part of the world, so on and so forth.

Which of the 4 cities are your favorite?

Americans enjoy free speech, protected by the 1st amendment. You can't exclude them on this, a US website.

They can chime in, which I expect them to do and that is fine. I'm only specifying that I want non-Americans involved too.

I'm more curious on what those outside of America actually have to say than those inside of America; primarily because I already have a good idea what Americans would say about their own cities.

Basically translation: I want to see what the popularity of these 4 American cities is to the world outside of America.

So you're looking to see if people outside the US have heard of them?

Anyway, I expect some of the responses to be way off base as is often the case. As an American however, I will refrain from chiming in for now and I've been to 3 out of the 4.

I am not American, and I have been to Orlando and not to the other 3.

My thoughts/things come to my mind:

Atlanta: Coca-Cola, big airport, black people, big airport
Charlotte: south, humid
Orlando: theme parks
Phoenix: hot, desert

The U.S. Constitution doesn't protect speech on a private website. C-D can make any requirement of its choosing.

Goodness me, he's only stating he'd like the opinions of people who don't live in the US. Nothing wrong with that.

To the OP: I've visited the US several times, but haven't been to any of these. To be honest none of them appeal to me or my (American) wife. Atlanta seems quite similar to Houston, which I have visited at least ten times, and we'd probably find little to interest us. Orlando, probably best known for Disney of course but we're too old for that and don't have kids. Phoenix and Charlotte, I know virtually nothing about, but a quick perusal of them doesn't really highlight anything particularly worthy of visiting. I'd be happy to hear of what might be attractive about them though!

For context, we live in London.

If they've heard of them. If they've been to them. If they would ever consider living in any of them. If they know things about them.

Feel free to chime in, Americans are welcomed to share their opinions and/or thoughts on these cities as well. They're free to vote for the city they like best as well.

The reason I made this thread in the World forum rather than the City-versus-City forum is because I wanted everyone's opinion, including Americans.

Makes perfect sense because I sometimes do the same thing

All are sunbelt cities so all are known for rather prolonged summer weather and all but Phoenix are very humid during the summer. Phoenix is only humid during the monsoon.

Atlanta is the largest city and cultural center of the southeast. It has several corporate headquarters such as CNN, Coca Cola and Cox communications, the latter not being known outside the US. It is a hub of Black American culture. My experience there was that it is very sprawled and very congested. While it is visually quite diverse, it doesn't seem so culturally as Black and southern White American culture seem to dominate. Like most places in the south, the food is excellent!

Orlando. Not as much experience here but it seems, like most of Florida, a little too carefully planned out and artificial for my personal taste. It is theme park capital of the world. Not too much experience with people or food but it has that Florida-eque impatience about it.

Phoenix. A desert city and metro that grew almost too fast and probably has no business being where it is. It is full of transplants from all over the US so has no real unique character about it. There are some older looking neighborhoods, not just the cookie-cutter type communities the southwest is frequently stereotyped for. Traffic on the freeways can be bad but overall, it is very vehicle friendly.

Haven't been to Charlotte.
