Most don't, it's just that I hear more of that kind of talk in the US than I ever hear in Canada. It's totally just my experience, but it also seems that many more people in the US knows someone in the military as well.

I think so I've lived in a town with a strong military presence I could frequently hear the jets flying above some of my neighbors were active and retired military.

Even now my next door neighbor is retired military and my boss is a retired high ranking military guy.
