rain will come, plus everything in California is tarting to be powered by solar energy so that may slow down climate change

One of the biggest wealth centers on Earth? Please. Are you talking about the city of SF, and comparing that to Manchester, or are you talking about the entire Bay Area? Because there are lots of shabby neighborhoods around the Bay Area. Compared to wealth centers like Switzerland, or perhaps Monaco, or Riyadh.

SF, a research hub? Again, you seem to be conflating SF with San Jose and other parts of what is generalized as Silicon Valley, but that only covers tech research, not medical and other types of research to such a significant degree.

UC Berkeley, the most prestigious university on the entire Earth? OK, quit with the hyperbole, already. It's embarrassing, and I'm a native of Berkeley, myself. Please, get a grip.

The UK has a fantastic #1 city, a bunch of really ugly, grotesque and decaying secondary cities, and then a trove of beautiful provincial towns like Bath, York, Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Chester, etc.
Manchester is one of the worlds centres for the music industry! It is also home to the BBC, it has world class restaurants and universities, it has a fabulous nightlife and is a haven for shoppers, like a previous poster I suggest you don't actually know what you are talking about.

Oh? Do you have a crystal ball? That's what they were saying a year ago: that a massive El Nino event would flood CA to disastrous effect, while also bringing desperately needed water. It turned out to be a bit of a non-event. Rain may come, but rain will also go. And according to climate specialists, it will mostly be absent well into the future, and a bit sparse when it does come. With the exception of the far north coast, but even there, it has already declined compared to past years/eras.

there is absolutely no truth to this statement whatsoever

That's actually a problem I had with a member on here who was arguing for the superiority of SF over London. In order to even compete, she had to cite the whole bay area, and even then fell short. That said I absolutely love San Francisco, even if it has apparently lost a little of its character to gentrification.

Yes. The Bay Area has more wealth than all but a handful of metros on the planet.

The Bay Area is much wealthier than Switzerland, Monaco or Riyadh (seriously, Riyadh of all places?).

We're talking metro areas obviously, not city limits. Both the city proper and metro are huge research and innovation hubs.

Obviously Stanford. Yes, one could argue Stanford is the most prestigious university on earth. At absolute worst, it's what? Top four or five?
