You need to learn to read, I never said they couldn't join because of that difference. I said I wouldn't like to see Uruguayan culture engulfed by a huge country like Argentina.
I actually speak Spanish and spend time in Uruguay often. I love the music, literature and many other things from that country. Have you ever even been there?
I can read.
Being a part of another country doesn't kill the culture if you don't actively try to destroy it. The US is a good example.
US and Canada
Malaysia and Singapore
North Korea and South Korea
Netherlands and Flanders
France and Wallonia
(But what do you do with Brussels/Brussel?)
Australia and New Zealand
Germany and Austria and Liechtenstein
Where my husband is from, you literally cross the street and you go from Brazil to Uruguay. Right away, you notice a cultural difference. Brazilians are very smiley, super nice. Uruguayans are more serious and reserved. It reminded me of when I cross from the US to Mexico.
Eastern Ukraine and Russia
New England and Canada
Alberta and the US
Southern California and Mexico
Southern Florida and Cuba
