Not quite, because there is an objective basis to aesthetics beyond just differences of opinion.

I'm pointing out that your own attempt at an objective definition is too narrow.

I'm just giving an opinion in an informal discussion on an Internet forum.

You seem like the kind of guy who likes to argue over minor points and semantics. I'm sure you'll find someone else who can join you in this dull, psuedo-intellectual pursuit.

Weren't you, just a moment ago, arguing semantics with someone for having a different definition of cool to yours? You're free to express your personal opinion, as you rightly say, but you seem to have trouble lending the same courtesy to others.

We know what you mean. Now it has become a political term which is really silly, no one can say the word liberal without getting 'lectured.'

Are you describing the city or yourself? You've been in it long enough to be a force for change otherwise you just allow it to happen so what does that say about you? I don't know how a long term resident can so detach themselves from a place and its fabric without taking any responsibility for how it is. All it becomes is just a critique as an 'objective' observant as opposed to an active participant.

I think this is a better list.

Tokyo looked on course to becoming l'ombelico del mondo in the 80s given all the panic over Japanese industry taking over the world, though whether it was a center of culture is a matter of taste. Seattle, with the grunge music scene in the 1990s. New York in the first post-war decade was probably at the height of prestige and optimism in its history.
