Americans seem be portrayed collectively as a highly optimistic group that's always thinking positively. This may be a good or bad thing in certain situations, but that's not the point of this post. Some cultures are neutral/realistic (not pessimistic or optimistic on average.) Are there any cultures that are pessimistic, always thinking things are worse than they really are?

Northern Europe - Individualism is very pessimistic I think.

Keep oneself to oneself like we're solitary animals when we're social.

Individualism doesn't mean keeping to oneself. It means being self-reliant. You can practice individualism and still be a social butterfly.

I do agree with the earlier comment about Slavics.

Idk, ask french themselves . They are the first bashers of France.
Probably a lot of them didn't travel enough to know that the grass isn't greener abroad.

Did they poll the Slovic countries?

Pretty sad to read about the Brits and the French. On an individual basis, I don't find them to be negative at all. I do find that people on the political extremes from anywhere tend to be the most pessimistic. On the right, they tend to be paranoid and on the left, they believe everybody to be victims of the wealthy.

The French : both extremely individualistic and hypocondriac. Both goes hand in hand anyway.
