If they're a man, and they sit down and put one leg up so that the ankle is resting on the knee of the other leg, that's an American right there. Never see anyone from any other country sit so that they're showing the sole of their shoe to the world. I don't know why they have that habit. It's a very Wild West way to sit down.

An American woman would be more difficult to pick out. Possibly she'd be more recognizable if she was dressed in a really flashy, blingy way. Rhinestones, gold shiny leather, long nails, bleached extensions, etc... it's a "look" that's not everywhere in the U.S., but it's even more rare up here.

Wouldn't you only notice the obvious ones?

And wouldn't that lead you to believe you're good at picking out Americans, when really you're only good at picking out the obvious ones?

Default Americans (USA), can you tell where someone is from based on accent alone?

I get the feeling that Americans are not used to or able to distinguish many foreign accents... Even Canadians are difficult (for me at least) to tell apart from Northern Central US Citizens.

Which (if any) foreign accents can you pick out and be pretty sure you are right?

I used to sit with my leg fully crossed until I kept getting told it looked effeminate, so I started crossing my lag the American way. I actually prefer it now because it stretches the muscles of the hip and groin in a good way.

As far as displaying the sole of my shoe, I suppose if I were in a Muslim country where that could be construed as insulting, I would be polite and avoid it, but I see no reason to do so in a Western country.
