Are there wars of any kind that were fought in around your locality or city? If so, what were they?

I live near where the British landed to march on Washington, DC during the War of 1812. Where I grew up in PA saw several skirmishes between settlers and the natives.

The major battlefields in the UK relate to the Wars of the Roses, Batlles between Scotland and England, The English Civil War and the Hundred Year War. Britain and France were also at war virtually all the time until more recent centuries.

There were also battles going back as far as the Romans such as the Battle of Watling Street which was fought in around AD 60, there were also battles involving the Vikings/Danelaw around the 9th and 10th centuries and in relation to the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

I live six miles from the marker for the Battle of Mactan, in which Ferdinand Magellan was killed by Lapu-Lapu.

Coincidentally, I also once lived on Magellan Street (Calle Magallanes) in a town in Chile, on the other side of the world. The man got around.

I lived in several houses in the French Quarter, quite possibly one that once quartered troops in the Battle of New Orleans.

Not where I live, but the russians where here both in 1721 and in 1809.
They also bombed us "by mistake" during WW2. If I remember correctly the germans shot at us with their artillery too.
