The Iraqi anthem plain sucks. I'll take Australian all day long.
Can you explain why you prefer one over the other?
The Australian anthem is melodically cheap and subpar in comparison. Why? Because it has a simple and boring chord progression that is in the likes of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Whilst the Iraqi one has a couple of diminished chords to add colour and uses the harmonic minor scale here and there. It is more akin to something that Pink Floyd would make in the 1970s rather than some nursery rhyme or millennial pop song.
That alone makes it superior to me, as a pianist. But what can I say? People prefer simplicity and repetitiveness nowadays. That's why Katy Perry and Justin Bieber are popular.
P.S. This is the Australian anthem in the minor key (specifically harmonic minor) and it sounds far more superior to the original. The music even compensates the risible lyrics:

You're right. Australian anthem is much more simplistic compared to the Iraqi one, and to me as a layman it's more appealing. I guess, our musical/lyrical preferences are dictated by where we're born and raised, what musical instruments are more popular than others ets. I was born in Eastern Europe and thus have a preference for a more grandiose yet simplistic melodies. Iraqi anthem has too many riffs for my taste.
P.S.
I love most of Pink Floyd.
