I'm not sure if Kyoto necessarily belongs up there. But consider:
-It is the historical capital of Japan, one of the world's historically impressive countries. In fact, there are 8 attractions considered among Howard Hillman's outstanding 1000 wonders, right in the city center, and a decent amount more in the area.
-While it's relatively gray, the climate is rarely too hot or cold for a visit. There are 2 months in the summer where it gets quite hot and humid, but then a number of very nice months on either end of that, and even in the coldest winter months, the high is generally in the upper 40s.
-The nature around it is generally pretty good. Japan, and especially Kyoto is well known for it's formal gardens and bamboo forest, but it also has over 3,000 ft. of topography (for hiking/etc.) within 10 miles, and it is 6 miles from Lake Biwa (the largest freshwater lake in Japan), and 30 miles from Osaka Bay which has outlet to the ocean.
-It is considered very safe, highly walkable, and well preserved, and very friendly to visitors for exploring and navigating, while still having a number of modern features and good transport.
-Osaka, it's more modern counterpart, complete with theme parks, tech, coastline, etc. is about 25 miles away.

I'm still not sure it ranks up with those others which are truly bonafied global destinations, but I could see where a person might prefer it even over a number of those you mention due to how much it offers and the unique feel.

China just had the National Day' holidays. Chengdu is by far the most popular destination in terms of profits (about 30 billion USD in one week).

Chengdu is unknown in the west, but it is the capital of Sichuan (Szechuan) Cuisine, hometown of panda bears, and the largest city near the Tibet Plateau. It's also famous for tea houses. In fact, Chengdu has 10x more tea houses than either Beijing or Shanghai. Its Western-style bars and clubs are also among the best in China.

These are the heavy hitters with the most tourist visitors.

Not surprising as they offer a lot, many things to see and do

I would switch Copenhagen with Stockholm. I think the latter is a more beautiful city and definitely one of Europe's gems.

Bangkok is the most visited city in the world by the way, ahead of London, Paris and New York.

In terms of London it has a lot of attractions including historing attractions and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a third of the city is green space and it has a number of beautiful parks, commons and heaths and is very walkable and increasingly cycable with ever more cycling lanes. The Natural Surroundings are also very beautiful including the Chilterns, South Downs, Box Hill, Epping Forest and a host of beautiful castles and Palaces from Windsor to Hampton Court.

London has a thriving theatre and entertainment district along with numerous (free) museums of international standing and there is all kinds of sports and indeed major stadiums throughout the city.

London has good transit systems in relation to the London Underground, London Overground, Thameslink, Crssrail Docklands Light Railway, South London Tramlink as well as numerous national and regional rail stations. It also has international rail services with the other great city of Paris being a mere two hours away by train.

London has numerous famour shopping streets such as Bond Street, Sloane Street, Oxford Street, Regents Street etc and numerous famous shops, hotels and restaurants.

In terms of serious crime, London has just over 100 homicides a year, which is very safe for a city of 8.78 million.

London has lots of unique different styles of architecture reflecting it's long history and is a diverse city representing many hundreds of cultures and this is relected in the chioce and options when it comes to food.

The weather is basically cool summers and mild winters, so like Paris it is rarely uncomfortable in terms of weather.

Finally in terms of the area around London within 100 kilmoetres it includes many historic cities such as Oxford and Cambridge, and interesting places to visit such as Brighton and the Jurassic Coast. As for Theme Parks there is Thorpe Park just outside of London, along with Warner Bros Studio Tour London which includes a Harry Potter Tour, with a £3.2bn theme park called the London Resort currently being planned for the Swanscombe Peninsula in nearby Kent.

Yes, London is amazing. Not that "impressive" to me though as I used to live in London. But it's a top 2 city in the world no doubt.
