So, it's all relative.

So what do you think, are USA, UK, Germany, France and Australia the best countries to live right now?

If NYC wants to get its homicide rate to first world standard it has to tone it down by like 300%. Chicago probably 1500%.

The homicide rate for all of NYC in 2017 was 3.35 per 100,000.

For midtown Manhattan (which is where most visitors go), it was <1 per 100,000.

For an American city, that is considered to be a major success story.

Why is France on the list as it still has very high unemployment rates?

Why is the US on the list? Mass shootings, profound ignorance among the masses, unsustainable cities/suburbs, incredibly high health care costs with mediocre service, poor economic mobility, militarized police forces, massive income inequality and on and on. And no it's not just because of Trump (although he's helping to accelerate the decline). Born and raised here, love this country... but we're not #1 in everything. Unless you mean #1 for most incarcerated.

The United States economy is doing rather well under Trump so far.

Some people are uncomfortable with this reality, however.

A homicide rate of 3.35 by Western European standards is a bit high, but nothing extraordinary. Malmo, Marseille, Liege, and some towns in Southern Italy have similar homicide rates to NYC
