Beirut looks more interesting in the pictures I saw, but I think Izmir’s quality of life is a bit better, so I’ll go with Izmir. Plus Izmir is closer to Greece.

Montreal! bilingual culture, more laid back, better subway, cheaper, more things to do in Summer and closer to other interesting cities NYC, Ottawa, Quebec etc

Johannesburg since it's the most popular citiy in Africa to visit, better weather & scenery, & despite South Africa's problems, it's still one of the most developed countries on the African continent.
