Two hill stations of the former British Empire:

Platres, Cyprus or Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka
I may actually go with Nuwara Eliya here. I think the natural environment would be more interesting.

Bangui, Central African Republic vs. Kandahar, Afghanistan

Bangui. Safer city overall.

Berlin... more interesting architecture. It would be cool to check out what's left of the Berlin Wall.

Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia vs. San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA

Oh this one is a tough one. Hmm, it's really basically a tossup, with the caveat I haven't spent a lot of time in either. 5 days in Bali, 4 in San Juan. I think I have a slight preference for Bali, but this is countered by San Juan being closer to "home"

Bali due to the cost of living.

Dakar, Senegal vs. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia vs. Mumbai, India?

I've heard India was getting good, particularly with Mumbai's Bollywood.

Chongqing, China or Bangkok, Thailand?

Easily Bangkok! So many travel to Bangkok and stay for one night and then they are off to the beaches. But for those that stay and find their way around and get comfortable with BTS and the subway, Bangkok is a splendid town. Sadly, much of the energy has died down because of Covid, but pre Covid, Bangkok had more energy than any town I've ever visited.

How about Istanbul or Rio?
