Not sure about the future of the Dutch Flyer boat train now that Eurostar have launched direct high speed trains between London and Amsterdam, although the flyer does have the advantage of being a sleeper service for those who wish to travel overnight.
Eurostar runs direct trains from London St Pancras International Station to Lille,, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam as well as Lyon Marseille and Avignon in the South of France, and there are also seasonal ski train services to the Alps. The next planned new service is a direct service from London to Frankfurt in Germany. By changing at Paris you can connect to lots of different services including night trains/sleeper services. I've done The Canadian a couple of times. Truly a fascinating journey, especially the Edmonton-Vancouver leg.
I took the Coast Starlight from San Francisco to Seattle.
There were a number of smaller ones I did as well, but those two truly stick out.
There are a lot of rail journeys I'd like to check out:
The Ghan
The Indian Pacific
Rocky Mountaineer
Trans-Siberian Railway
Train of the End of the World
I am not sure if the 8,400 mile rail link from London to Tokyo, that the Russia Government were seriously considering will happen in the foreseeable future given current political relations.
There are not going to be any bridges at Sakhalin, to Russia or to Japan. Who would use them, for what purpose, which would warrant the investment?
well Sakhalin does have tons of natural gas so there is industry on that island, and currently trains are ferried across the strait. The traffic might not be huge, but it's kind of a chicken or the egg scenario. Does industry bring railroads, or does railroads bring industry?

Half the railroads in the world are abandoned, because they did not bring industry, and existing industry did not sustain them.

I have done the Coast Starlight from Los Angeles to San Jose (& back) and it is a great for seeing the California coastline and changing scenery due to different micro-climates.
Recently I saw a Smithsonian Channel video about the Canadian route (from Vancouver to Toronto) and it looks very interesting.
