Berkeley is nice, I used to like San Fran more...but it's changed.I stayed with friends in Oakland years ago, near Lake Merritt, a nicer part of Oakland. I did wander one evening into a not so nice area though.

I've also been to San Jose, again years ago while staying in Palo Alto near Stanford University ( nice campus ).It's just not really on most tourists radar.
Most people of a certain generation only know San Jose from the song " Do you know the way to San Jose?"
The answer for most of the world is no. LOL It's all just lumped in as SV.

Well this for starters. All downtown. Yes I've been once, nothing bad to say about San Jose...it was years ago, but there is nothing really to draw me back. I've been going to California since 1963 as a child. Had family there.

A review from a fellow Californian...albeit from LA.

I'm a native of Berkeley. Glad you enjoyed it I like Oakland too and yeah, gotta know where you're going when near the lake haha.

Honestly, even within the Bay Area, San Jose is a name and that's about it. It's lumped with Silicon Valley like you said or if you live in the Bay Area, it's part of the "South Bay". As I said earlier, sports put American cities on the map. The San Francisco 49ers now play in the South Bay. Not in San Jose but in neighboring Santa Clara. The Superbowl was in Santa Clara. One of two theme parks in the Bay Area is in the South Bay, in Santa Clara. San Jose is seriously an afterthought. It has a huge flea market people go to but that's about it.

LOL Know your audience. I have never been one to sing San Diego's praises but this isn't about San Diego. It's about about the fact that your only defense of San Jose is to repeat the same things over and over or deflect. You cannot argue against the facts Natnasci or myself have pointed out LOL

Overall Vancouver is better known internationally. I have no idea what you mean by Vancouver being an afterthought. It's a city in it's own right with a secure and important place in Canada, as it's third largest city. I think my photos and videos posted have scared you LOL.

Yes people of have heard of The Silicon Valley, but it's a vague notion of an industry rather than an actual place for many, especially outside of the US.

Vancouver has had numerous international events such as The World's Fair and The Olympics which give it some international attention.

Being a major port also helps.

San Jose is world famous: just watch many news org. internationally, and you see them mention SJ without state added to its dateline to my frustration due to another SJ in Costa Rica. I do realize it's SJ, CA. San Jose is much more economic significant and more of a global, cosmopolitan city. Just look at Resonance and JJ Momentum.

Many people do: "let's go visit downtown" "It's so much fun!" "Hey, about visiting SJ and check out Santana Row?" Lost your marbles?
