I don't know much about Brazil. But I guess most Brazilians are of Portuguese ancestry. So, I would expect European classical music to be widely known in Brazil.
Yes, it is, but the Portuguese ancestry is not the only reason, although the emperor Pedro I was himself a prominent classical composer - he wrote the Brazil Independence Anthem. The strong influx of of immigrants from Germany and Italy also contributed a lot.

Europe has traditional music which is much older than European Classical music.

We can divide the history of the European music in five ages: the ancient music, which has only some very few fragments; the Middle Ages, with the Gregorian Chant and the troubadours; the Renaissance, with its polyphonic songs; the Common Practice Age - which includes Baroque, Classical and Romantic; and the Modern Age, with the new technologies and stronger limit dividing the popular music and academic music (atonalism, serialism, minimalism, eletroacustic, and so on).

What you call "traditional music" is the body of songs and dances which were transmitted orally, without notation. But, indeed, many composers used many of them in their own works.

Don't forget that classical western music must be their "traditional" music.... In korea classical western music is held in high regard.. but it is not their traditional music..

There are great Russian classical music composer.. but Russia was not a mother land of classisl music.. The roots of classical music dates back to XVI century with Monteverdi..
The music in Europe can be diveded.. before Monteverdi and after Monteverdi

COUNTRIES CALLED AS WEST COUNTRIES (WESTREN WORLD)

quoted from : Negara yang Disebut Sebagai Negara Barat (Dunia Barat) - ILMU PENGETAHUAN
Usually we like to call white people ( bule ) as westerners. Indeed, in general we refer to countries that are predominantly inhabited by white people as western countries even though they are not in the Americas or the European continent, the majority of which are white people. Whereas if a straight line is drawn on the map, it can be seen that the African continent is located just below (south) of the European continent, but Africa is not referred to as a western country and African and black and Arabic people are not referred to as westerners.

Example of List of Countries Called by Western Countries :

1. United States of America
2. Canada
3. Russia
4. Netherlands
5. Bosnia and Herzegovina
6. Kosovo
7. Germany
8. Spain
9. England
10. France

All of Western Europe (the most western border is where lies Germany-Austria-Italy), the Americas, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand.

If much of Latin America isn't Western, then the USA will not be either in a few years (it barely is now using this definition). Places like Uruguay and Canada will be Western while the USA will not.
