In the United States it is almost customary to thank a veteran or active duty military member for their service. There are plenty of stories of random acts of kindness people will do for veterans or active duty, not to mention we have veterans day, veterans discounts, can loans, GI Bill for college, and a host of other benefits for our veterans here.
My question is, how are veterans and active duty military treated in other countries? Do they receive close to the same respect and treatment they do here?

There are a host of welfare and health organisations in the UK, we also have a veterans discount day and veerans march on Remembrance Sunday, the closest Sunday to the 11th November when the WW1 Armastice was signed.
We do not individually thank Veterans as this would be awkward and embarrassing and many do not want to constantly reminded of the conflict they fought in and want to move on with their lives.
