Why would NZ be Western Europe? - not much in common
My experience of Northern Australia, is that the culture isn't that different to the rest of Australia
Northern Australia is more like Southeast Asian including Indochina
the middle and south AUS are certainly different but most resemble NZ and Pacific Islander

Geographically maybe, but socially and culturally? Yes, there has always be an Asian influence in "modern Australia", greater than most from elsewhere generally realise, but that influence is part of a broader mosaic that is strongly Western, of European descent in overall character. West Coast US and Canada are probably most similar in that regard.

I guess I was thinking of the oceanic climate and mountainous terrain (although western Europe is generally flat). Maybe we could try squeezing NZ in central Europe opposite of Switzerland. Would that work?

I think the only place that could be a realistic match would be coastal southern NSW/Vic, and Tasmania.
I would gladly take NZ as part of coastal southern NSW/TAS. We need a NZ here!

I was more going under geographic grounds. I do agree that we are still more western, yes.
Yep, the northern end of NZ just to the north of the Azores, and stretching 13 degress of latitude north from there. Could possibly get a similar climate.
