Can you name even one startup from Switzerland? How are they involved in cryptocurrency or is bitcoin even legal there? Are they one of the least religious countries in europe? Is their gdp in tech growing related to say China? I won't be surprised if equal marriage is still illegal there or freedom of speech or what not...
I am not saying Switzerland is the root of all evil, sure they're rich, developed and ubs is awsome and the chocolate is great but it's just impossible to rank them as no 1. The dude who made this must've liked the 80s and the 90s in western europe.
Switzerland with a relatively small population of 8.5 million, has some big pharma and bio-techs, so I should imagine some of their innovation will be in these areas.
Also the list will be innovations according to population, which means if you have a lot of pharma or other research companies it's going to mean a higher percentage of innovation per capita. Switzerland is home to 65 pharmaceutical companies, 338 biotechnology companies and 334 companies specialising un medical devices and technology.
^ Israel has 8 million population and according to some data 1/1400 startups per capita which is the highest in the world, this doesn't include just pharmaceutical ones...but i guess since "they're jews" you don't seem them beating switzerland.
Having spent some time in two of those top ten countries recently, they certainly kept their innovative nature well hidden from public view...... Certainly not backward, but no more innovative than countries not on that list...

Good for Israel and I have nothing against Jewish people or Israel, I was merely explaning why Switzerland might be so high up on the list.
ridiculous ranking. lived in Switzerland for many years. the country is very backward in terms of adoption of technology. most of the apartments are not even air conditioned.
Assuming innovation doesn't just mean technology: fair enough they have euthanasia there and...politicians traveling with trams. Also: that CERN collider, which isn't super innovative as of 2019 given when they built it...
But it's still absurd not to put China, Korea or Japan as no 1 even with all the doom and gloom scenarios about Japan meanwhile a heavily religious gun owning country with zero technological brands is the best out of 200+ countries...
In reference to China, just because you adept at stealing everyone else's technology doesn't make you innovative, it makes you a thief.
