Uzbekistan is very underrated when it comes to historical sites.

I've been to Iran, and it really is very different from the Arabic-speaking countries. It s one of the safest and friendliest countries in the world, well worth the effort to go there.

Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan would be too heavily influenced by Soviet culture, to have retained much similarity.

Interestingly the real Azerbaijan is found within north western Iran, not the country Azerbaijan.

My Grandmother grew up there and real Azerbaijani people come from there and their cultural/history as well. The country Azerbaijan does not have the same history.

You're right, of course, but that Real Azerbajan requires an Iranian visa to visit it, so it is outside the scope of this thread. I drove from Ardibil through Tabriz into Van, and loved it.

Turkey/Azerbaijan are probably the closest culturally.

Maybe Azerbaijan? Iran has a large Azeri population anyway

Aside from that, I think Uzbekistan probably has some influences as well

I think Azerbaijan. There is almost the same language as in Turkey there but i have heard that it is more like Iran in terms of culture. Certainly there are also soviet (Russian?) influences.

But maybe Tajikistan too?

What about Tajikistan, which is Dari speaking (closely related to Farsi)?
