Speaking of "slums" - some folks who have been to China may notice that in the larger Chinese cities, there are very few visible signs of "slums". In fact, these days it's even quite rare to see beggars on the street. Which automatically leads one to think that all Chinese people must have grown so incredibly wealthy and happy. But like nearly every other phenomenon in China, it's a manufactured reality.
The below is a very very common occurrence in Chinese cities, between the local police and street vendors, beggars, and what the government defines as "low-level populations". The incidents below occurred in Shanghai, in 2018, when an "Urban Management Police Officer" struck and then repeatedly beat an elderly fruit vendor to the ground using a plastic whip, in full view of bystanders.
Videos of common police harassments of street vendors and beggars in Shanghai, 2019 below. You may think these are isolated incidents, but for tens of millions of lower-class Chinese who make a living on the street, this is their daily reality.
When people think of Italy they think of art, light, culture, the problem with China is it's full of 'oppressed' people, Hong Kong is the latest example of a population desperately trying to escape communist 'chains', which probably explains why such a massively huge country doesn't project anything much in the way of popular culture to the world.

I agree, not a huge fan of Paris. I'm from the south of France. China still has a long ways to go, and it needs to start doing things right instead of ripping people off. Doing business with China is terrible, the only advantage is price, but with the automation and the 4.0 industry that gap is going to close. the world needs to get their factory out of China. Made china is has become even more untrusted

Forget the police, in the west they'd attack you if you're white - just a read a news of how someone (taxi driver) from my country was attacked somewhere in the UK, also they killed a white Czech tourist recently, again because he was white. The west had succumbed to total disaster these days, this isn't like Mozart whose favorite city was Prague, these days any country with largely white population is considered immoral in the west and China is our only solution (again I know you aren't Chinese maybe but the sentiment here isn't too bad).

China is a communist country, the people don't vote for their government, that's not 'Western Media', that's a fact, it is not democratic, why did people risk their lives trying to escape Communism in Europe? Why is everybody in Hong Kong currently demonstrating on the streets? How long before the Communists send in the Army just like they did before in Tiannamen Square? People in the West are free and THAT is by FAR THE most important thing in ANY society! And I get to say what I think without fear of repurcussions from any kind of 'secret police', China (like ALL other Communists states) is a political 'hell hole' which is why European cities are currently by far MUCH nicer places to live, their feedoms are why culturally they are so much richer than any city in China, doesn't make any difference how 'big' the city gets either! If you want to make Chinese cities pleasant places to live then get rid of Communism (unfortunately not easily done because of lack of political freedoms), end of story.
