^^^ I agree. The leadership, lack of tests (although Russia is testing really fast), premature relaxing restrictions is the cause of the huge spike.
Look what Germany just did with the new infection spike. They right away locked down 650,000 people and watch their movements.
I think the pyramid isn't about number of infections, but the government response to contain any. So, people could feel safe and cared for. The availability of beds, the medical preparedness, the population that would follow restrictions and recommendations.
There are many countries on the bottom of the Worldometer list that had just few infections, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are safe and could successfully fight any bigger outbreak.
^ No country can come close to the rate of Russia, Brazil and America though but they have the "advantage" of retarded leaders.
Hungary is interesting example btw with such a bad government and almost unaffected.
They’re also huge countries. You forgot to mention India, with its recent spike. From what I’ve seen, Russia still has far fewer deaths than the US and Brazil.
^ India has the obvious problem of one billion people on a smaller land, very poor overall too.
