The snowbirding phenomenon is one in which generally older, retired people move to a warmer climate than back home either just for the winter or all year long. Is that phenomenon as prevalent in Western Europe (e.g. UK or Germany or Scandinavia to the Costa del Sol or Algarve) or in Australia (e.g. Melbourne or Tasmania to Queensland) as in North America (e.g. the US North or Canada to Florida or Arizona)? I'm not necessarily talking total numbers, I just mean per capita.

I would say equally prevalent in Europe. Especially the soggy deary climates (uk, Netherlands, northern areas of Europe.

Southern Portugal is crazy full of winter escapees.

Thailand is full of western Europe winter escapees geting healthcare / dental work. Some couples I have met have been making that snowbird run for 40+ yrs.

NZ is full of western europe youth on work Visas. Especially in winter. I wonder who is left in Germany and Austria during the winters. School children only?

Saskatchewan farmers have bought farms in Australia to give them something to do in the winter. They have a great idea. Outside during 16-18 hrs of daylight, year round!

Few of the above are retirees!
With WW work from home, I can see this activity expanding.

We keep multiple rural homes. The main homes are rented out year round. We stay in a guest house on the property and fly to the location with the best weather. Deductible Business expense flying between properties to maintain them. Just one of many solutions for snowbirding.
