Let's say you're well off and have a guaranteed visa to live and work in the US or Japan. Would you rather live in NYC or Tokyo, and why?

Definitely NYC. I love Tokyo, but wouldn’t want to live there long term.

Tokyo without a doubt. Been to NYC and there’s nothing there for me. Tokyo looks like a clean, orderly place with its own set of funky eateries, cultural opportunities, etc. Tokyo, has I an unlimited budget, looks cool as hell.

NYC without a doubt and I currently do.

Been to Tokyo multiple times. While I like Tokyo’s attention to detail, cleanliness and infrastructure very much and I’m very fond of the Japanese culture and cuisine, I would much rather visit Tokyo as a tourist and have no desire to live there.

Obviously, if you look on the surface, there are so many things to like about Tokyo and to bash NYC for. But if you look deeper down and take NYC the way it is, it is not hard to understand that NYC is lauded as one of the two greatest cities in the world for a reason and it has a depth like no others.

Tokyo mochiron, unless you're an American or anyone from the anglosphere Japan is 100 times better choice...unless you're after covid, crime and a "young" president etc.

Tokyo. I'm a weeb and have been living in NYC for 11 years now. Hell, I'm entertaining the option of getting stuck there again. March - July was great vs what we came back to.

NYC, if only for the wider array of culinary options.

Tokyo.

Some folks love grittyness and there's nothing wrong with that, for me though, I particularly love modern.

If money were not a problem then maybe half the time in Tokyo and half the time in NYC.

If money was no object and I was choosing right now? Tokyo. Having to deal with the oppressive corporate culture there would be a dealbreaker for me, but it wouldn't matter if I was rich and could just stay home.

Also, I don't think I would stay there forever. I'd probably want to move to NYC eventually.
