Not really recognized as such but I would strongly suggest China already is a superpower. World's largest army, navy and nukes. Largest economy or soon to be. Highly organized government with deep and increasing economic and political interests around the World.

Yes, India has potential, but wouldn't be the NEXT superpower. It must overcome many economic, social, and political problems before it can be considered a superpower and also needs to be as influential on the international stage when compared to the US, China or the former Soviet Union.

China does not have the largest navy...yet. This recent news piece was highly flawed. They will do in the future however at the current rate.

India will definitely become a superpower. However, it must reform internally to achieve success it needs and deserves. I would say a trade deal with the UK would be an excellent place to start. Knowledge, expertise transfer, trade with one another under the same legal systems makes growth faster, easier, and a win-win regards China.

Asian union is unlikely because of too many conflicts between asian countries comparing with European and American countries.

I know that's why I said I'm hoping for an Asian Union so that Asian countries can get along with each other like in the west.

Super power?

But they can't even ship out things you buy online without problems (so often).

In number of ships, yes. But China's navy is not a blue water navy that can project power. 90% of its navy does not have a range of more than 1,000 nm. What's more, it's total hull tonnage is a fraction that of the United States. In that sense, Japan has a more capable navy than that of China, and Japan actually has experience in large fleet operations. It's a coastal navy.

And that last nugget is pretty crucial. China can build all the vessels it wants. But it's not an experienced maritime power.

It's a serious problem for China. Why? Two reasons. First, China is highly dependent on foreign trade for its economic life.

Second, depending on who you read, 80-85% of all China's energy is loaded on tankers and has to make a 7,000-mile journey past the navies of India, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. Literally any of these navies could shut down China's lifeline of oil without much of a problem, which means China grinds to a half six-eight weeks later.

That's why I don't take the pundits predicting the Chinese invasion of Taiwan seriously. An amphibious invasion is the toughest military operation there is. First, China doesn't have the naval heft to land sufficient troops to take an island with 1,800,000 regular and reserve forces. And they certainly don't have the naval capability to keep those same troops supplied. Not with the US and Japan getting into the act.
