I grew up cycling distance from Rye Playland (located in Rye, New York) which is an old fashioned "seaside" amusement park. Although it has modernized somewhat, it still has some rides dating back to the 1920s like the Dragon Coaster which is among the oldest wooden roller coasters still operating, and the Derby Racer, a type of high speed carosel.

Washington DC has Six Flags America

King's Dominion, Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Hersheypark can all be done in a day trip depending on which side of the metro area you live on.

There are no theme parks in Brisbane they are all on the Gold Coast, between 50 and 80 km away, and sunshine coast between 80 and 100km away, their could be as many as a dozen across both locations depending on what you consider to be a theme Park.

Its not a "Theme Park" per se, however the Zoo that the Irwin Family own and run, is about 1 hour North of Brisbane.
