I know Germany's because I lived there and we always would play both at functions.
I know the UK's because, well, I know a lot of useless stuff about the UK. But their national anthem SHOULD be "Rule Brittania!"
I know France's because of the scene in Casablanca. I mean, I think it's the French national anthem - if not, it should be.
I know Canada's but I don't know why.
Of course I know ours in the USA.
I have a funny story to tell. One time I went to a fireworks display on the 4th of July. It was in a small town. So get this - during the fireworks, they played OTHER COUNTRY'S NATIONAL ANTHEMS as well as Johnny Paycheck singing "Take This Job And Shove It." I thought that was very strange and also very funny.

"God Save the Queen" is actually the second national anthem of my country (known as our "royal anthem") and was co-equal as the official national anthem with "O Canada" for much of my childhood, but I don't know any of the lyrics beyond the first line "God save our gracious Queen..."

We had to learn "Good Save the Queen" as kids, I believe it was the official anthem of Australia until the early 1980;s, I don't think it was actually played in sporting contests very much, but used more for official government types reasons.
I highly doubt that my daughter who is in primary school now would have ever even heard God Save The Queen, let alone know the words to it.

When I was a kid, I and probably most of my schoolmates believed that "Waltzing Matilda" was Australia's national anthem.
Don't or didn't they sing it to open sports matches?

I really don't know if you want to know the truth, I think it was either God Save the Queen or advance Australia fair prior to 1983. By the looks of things God Save the Queen was actually played as the official Australian national anthem at the Melbourne Olympics (1956). In 1952 (Helsinki) they played both Advance Australia Fair and God Save the Queen every time Australia won a Gold Medal.
I think what song was used depends on what sport was involved and who we were playing.
Should add, you can largely thanks the Simpsons for me knowing Oh Canada
