If I didn't know the history behind the flags I would go with the Union Jack for looks. But with knowing the history behind the Stars and stripes i think it is more beautiful.

This thread is not about the Saltire.

So what? I asked a question.

The saltire is actually apart of the union jack...you probably didn't know that. Technically I can speak of it. Because of that.

Duh!

The US flag is downright ugly. The Union flag has that rock'n'roll thing going for it at least.

Scotslass, I really don't see where you are going with this. The thread is titled "American Flag vs. Union Jack."

I think Scotslass is saying that the Saltire is part of that other flag, and as such, is just as relevant to the thread. The history of that other flag can be broken down, theres more to it than just one geographical location.

Thank you, someone with sense

Come on the rest of you, learn some history.

The Scottish flag is apart of the Union jack, there would be no union jack without the Scottish flag (saltire)

That was the point i was "trying" to make!

Again, as i'll clearly point out in this diagram for the less bright people here or people that are a tad ignorant of Scottish/British history.

Default Hey, Scotslass!! Saltire spotted..

..on the roof of a BMW Mini-Cooper. As opposed to that Other Flag which normally resides there. We live 3 floors up, so I get a birdy-eye view of these things. I had to chuckle, and think of you.

Er, I didn't chucke b/c of you, it was the idea of replacing the Other Flag with the Saltire. Good one!
