I personally like the American flag's design much more than the UK flag...but then it could be because of the fact that the UK flag would, in my mind, will always be associated with the historical subjugation and colonial rule of my country.
Some of us down 'ere have been trying to get rid of the UJ for years, there's another thread somewhere about it.
Between you and me ....just quietly.....I'd rather see *whispering* the stars and stripes on the Aust flag!
No thanks. Actually saw on a car out here in Oz the flag you describe and it looked awful.
At least the Union Jack in the canton stands for tradition. What would the American flag stand for? Even Hawaii didn't go that far.
The American flag is too unstable with its obsession of adding a star for every new state. Has anybody investigated what it will look like if Puerto Rico becomes a state? And then Guam, Samoa, the Virgin Islands...? It should go back to 13 stars, just like the European flag will always have 12 stars, no matter how Europe evolves.
I just wish Australia would get their own flag too! we don't want you either, you are an Asian influenced country with nothing to do with Britain, also the most racist country on earth don't bash the brits for a history you may hate, look after your original Australians better, love them, stop being racist, insular, bleach-blonde tossers, put the native Australian art work on your flag, or pee off back to Croatia, England, Ireland, Vietnam or wherever you originally came from.

No, that would cause too much of a 'huh?' reaction. Most Aussies under 50 wouldn't know who Rolf Harris was, and the rest would think of him as some guy who lives in England who does a passable imitation of an Australian accent.
